The Creative Princess: May 2011

I did it all myself!!

Liking the new look as much as I am?

Want to know how I did it all?

Well, ok we go....

First, I went to a Blogging Bootcamp hosted by Sarah Roe and CC Miller.
They told me all of their secrets, well as many as they could get out in those three hours, and I came home and started going to the sites they talked about.

First, lets start with MakinCuteBlogs and Design It! Love It! she has a TON of tutorials.

Seriously, a TON!

I also like TheCutestBlogontheBlock and of course google.

If there was ever a question about something I didn't fully understand I just googled it.

For a cute (simple) yet snazzy background I just discovered

Now, before today I would have had a complete page full of sites I LOVE with those cute backgrounds.  However, PatternCooler has ALL of them beat!  Yes, ALL of them!

I discovered PatternCooler thanks to google, it was on like page 5 I think, so worth the wait!

Why do I like PC?  WELL!  You pick the background pattern you like.  You then pick the color combo YOU want, then you pick the size of patter YOU want.  You can even adjust the fade of the pattern........ and the best is SOOOO easy!

And the VERY best part??

TOTALLY FREE!  Yep, 10000% free!  WooHoo!!

Now, if you want to add cute fonts and signatures and post dividers I suggest you check out Kevin and Amanda!

Talk about put you on a cute font overload!  Oh my!

Have fun with your blog my friends!  Make it your own!  Do what YOU like!

I think I am FINALLY happy with mine....for now.

Now, this is the free way to go about doing a blog makeover.  There are PLENTY of sites out there that will design the entire thing for you and will even install it!  WOW!

Birthday Cupcakes Update

(Shirley Temple Cupcakes)

I first talked about this AMAZING cupcake here.  I read all the reviews and read over the recipe a few times just to see if I really felt this was for sure THE cupcake.

It TOTALLY was!  OH! MY! GOSH! It was SOOOOO good!

The cupcake itself is a yummy pomegranate flavor and was SO good just by itself.  The topping is where the Shirley Temple flavor comes in.  It is a sweet yet tart lemon/pomegranate flavor.  YUM!

While making the cupcakes I discovered a few things.  The batter is TOTALLY weird!  Seriously.  I have never seen anything like it in my life.  Well, ok, maybe once when I was making my AWESOME Strawberry Buttercream and something went wrong, very wrong and everything separated.  It looked just like that.  Everything separated.  It was very soupy.  If you make this just know, there is nothing wrong, it should look like that.

I did go ahead and make the homemade grenadine, also talked about here.  It was VERY good!  It is worth making, it is not hard and it doesn't take much time.

The icing is like a glaze rather than a fluffy frosting.  It is very sticky and will run if you put too much on.

The other thing I did........

Chocolate Cupcakes kissed with Coffee and topped with an Italian Coffee Buttercream.

I could have seriously eaten the frosting with a spoon right out of the bowl.

I won't lie, I did do just that.  YUM!

These were SO good!  As soon as that coffee extract appears on the market I will for sure be stocking up!

I just took a regular chocolate cake mix, made it according to the directions on the box and added about 5 tablespoons coffee extract.  Bake according to directions on box.

For the frosting I made my regular buttercream and added about 4 tsp's coffee extract and 3 tablespoons Coffee-Mate Italian Sweet Cream creamer.  OH! MY! GOSH!  I can not even explain to you how good this was!

Cinnamon Muffins

I found myself all out of muffin mix this morning.  *SIGH*  What is a girl to do?

Well!  Make your own, that's what!

Cinnamon Muffins
1 1/2 C Flour
1/2 C Sugar
1/4 C Brown Sugar
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
2 tsp Baking Powder
1 Egg
1/2 C Milk
1/2 C Oil
*Cinnamon Sugar Mix

Preheat oven to 400 degrees

Combine Flour, Sugar's, Salt, Cinnamon and Baking Powder in bowl.

In separate small bowl beat egg.  Add Milk and Oil stir.

Combine wet ingredients to dry and stir just until dry ingredients become wet, do not over mix.

Fill greased muffin tins 1/3 full with mix (I was able to fill 8).

Sprinkle top with Cinnamon Sugar Mix* and top with a bit more muffin mix.  Again, top with Cinnamon Sugar Mix*.

Place in oven and bake for 15-20 min.

*Cinnamon Sugar Mix
I am sorry, I do not have exact measurements for this.  I combine a lot of regular sugar and brown sugar with a bit of cinnamon until it looks right.

These are FANTASTIC!  I will be making these again!

Give me a BREAK!!!!!

(my MG ready for a break)

I have to tell you.  Right now.  Right now at this very moment (ok and a few moments for the past week), I decided I am done!  For now.  With the Disney posts.  Now, I may very well change my mind in the next 30 seconds.  And you know what, that is totally ok.

For now.

I am done.

On to other things.

Yesterday was Mother's Day, it was my 6th Mother's Day and my mom's 30th.  Because of some unforeseen plumbing issues (in my house, imagine that!) we were able to spend the weekend together.  Saturday, all four of us girls spent the day shopping.  It was a good day.

Yesterday the four of us picked out some flowers/plants for my moms yard.  I even got some strawberries, pumpkins and tomatoes to plant.  It was a good weekend.

This past week at school Mads filled out one of those fill in the blank forms about your mom.  Some of my favs that she put....

I love my mom because she "bakes me cookies"
She is best at "making dinner"
She does not do well at "grilling" (ROFL I love this one)
She makes me "happy"
She's the best because "she makes the best cookies" (awww)
I'll always remember when my mom "was a coupon princess"

I LOVED it!  lol  Plus, she wrote every last letter all on her own.  She is such a sweet little girl with such a big heart.  Every time we see her teacher (who is from the deep south) tells us how much of a Southern Lady Mads is.  Awww!  She TOTALLY is!

I love my girls!

I hope you all had a very fabulous Mother's Day.

Kona Cafe - Tonga Toast Recipe

Tonga Toast
Kona Cafe, Polynesian Resort WDW

2 or 4 slices sourdough bread, cut 1 to 1 1/2 inches thick
1 banana
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
oil or shortening for frying
whipped butter and/or syrup

Cut a 1-inch pocket in one side of each bread slice. Cut banana in half crosswise, then split each piece lengthwise. Remove peel and stuff two pieces of fruit in each pocket of bread; set aside. Mix sugar and cinnamon; set aside. Mix together well the egg, milk and vanilla.

Heat about 4 inches of oil in a pan to 350ยบ F. Dip stuffed bread into egg/milk mixture and let it soak a few seconds to let penetrate bread. Fry bread on both sides in hot oil until lightly browned, about 3 minutes. Drain on paper towels or wire rack. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and serve.
This recipe was found at

The Kona Cafe serves this with a Strawberry compote.

You find a video tutorial with a recipe variation HERE, they also give you a strawberry sauce recipe.  This recipe does not call for the egg mixture and just has you fry up the toast naked.  I would also cut out the water they call for in the strawberry sauce as they had to add cornstarch to thicken it up.

I will be sure to let you know how ours turns out!  Enjoy!

Kona Cafe - Restaurant Preview

I have read a LOT of wonderful reviews about the Kona Cafe and when I finally decided that 8 character meals while we are at Disney is just too many, I ventured out.  I needed something for the morning we will be going to Magic Kingdom, I needed the reservation early enough in the morning to still be able to make it to the park before it go too crowded and above all I needed it to have GREAT food.

(Pic from Chip & Co. click to go to site)

Macadamia Pineapple Pancakes

Yep, that is all it took for me to make the reservation.  That and the Kona coffee that gets outstanding reviews.

The menu says these pancakes come complete with "Macadamia Nut Butter, Pineapple Sauce, and your choice of Ham, Bacon, or Sausage".  Mmmmmmm!!!

Don't worry, they do have other things that sound yummy!

Tonga Toast is their other yummy sounding dish.  What is Tonga Toast? is... "Banana-stuffed Sourdough French Toast rolled in Cinnamon Sugar
and served with a Strawberry Compote and your choice of
Ham, Bacon, or Sausage".  Mmmm..Mmmm!

Then there are the regular offerings such as eggs, omelets, pancakes and regular french toast.  But remember, we are dining at Disney so is anything ever really "normal"?  No, is the answer to that question.

I can not wait!  Stay tuned for a complete review after our trip!

Just in case you want more details, you can see the full Breakfast Menu here.

I have also heard great things about other meals (lunch/dinner) at Kona Cafe.  Want to see the menus for the other dining options?  Here are the Lunch, Dinner and Dessert menus.  Don't forget about the kids!  Kids get their very own Breakfast and Lunch/Dinner menus!

Please remember all menus are subject to change at any given time.

Boxes for Bama info

Because of the recent Tornado Outbreak in Alabama there are many, many families that are now having to start over. I am not in the position that I can help by donating money but I AM in the position that I can help by sending a box of food!

I encourage all of you to send one box of food and/or one box of toiletries. You can find Flat Rate Boxes at your local PO and as long as your box is under 75 lbs it is a flat rate to send, rate does depend on box size.

If you would like to participate I can get more info to you, just send me a message on Facebook or email me at thecreativeprincess [at] gmail [dot] com.

Also, if you would rather make a monetary donation you can do that as well. You can do that through me, all money will go to Mountain View Church to help them with costs of helping those in the area. If sending money, checks should be made out to Renovation Ministries and labeled clearly Tornado Relief. You can also donate to the American Red Cross.

Thanks to all!

Please feel free to share this event with your friends.

Also, here is a list of things that are needed.  Please remember anything that you can send will be GREATLY appreciated.  These people are having to start their lives over completely, they have nothing.
