Abbott Nutrition Pack a Snack - Champions for Kids

I recently signed up to be part of the Abbott Nutrition Pack a Snack project.  This project is so close to my heart.  You have heard me talk about wanting to start awesome things in this community.  You know I have a heart and passion for helping kids.  You have also heard me talk about the kids around here being hungry.  Oklahoma is now the 4th hungriest state in the US.  The number of Oklahomans at risk of going hungry every day is astonishing to me, 600,000 people!  One in four Oklahoma children struggles with hunger.  I know for my community that number is much higher.  We have to do something about this!

For this campaign I will be purchasing Abbott Nutrition Snack Packs and donating them to a local charity.  The charity I have chosen is my local Salvation Army Backpack program.  This program provides food for children for after school and weekends.  It surprises me that most people do not know that there are children that only eat at school.  The only food they eat for the day is whatever is provided at school.  Thank God for programs that provide food for these children.  It is so important for children to have nutritious food options and am glad the Backpack Program offers this.

I am very excited to be a part of this simple service project, you can find more info and other ideas on the Champions for Kids website.  During the next few weeks I hope you will join me in this mission and donate to a local organization and help change the face of hunger!

I am proud to be working as one of the millions of Champions for Kids.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias.  All opinions in this post are my own.  #CBias  #AbbottCFK

Strawberries and Cream Instant Oatmeal | Recipe

I don't know about you but, we go through oatmeal like that is the only thing to eat on this planet!   Seriously a TON! My youngest would eat it for every meal and snack....every day....if I let her. Yes, the little packs can be cheap (if you can find a coupon and get them on sale) but it still adds up.  I used things I already had on hand so there was no extra cost to make this.  FREE is ALWAYS good!   I tried before to make little packets to keep on hand but that was a complete fail.  I have since reworked the recipe and am happy with the results.  I decided to just keep the oatmeal in a glass container this time and scoop out what we need, when we need it.  You can also make this into packets by just scooping the desired amount into zip-top bags. {Strawberries & Cream Instant Oatmeal}   12 Servings 6 Cups Quick Cook Oats 1 1/2 Cups Oat Powder 2 Cups Powdered Milk 1 - 1 1/2 Cup Sugar 1 Cup Freeze Dried Strawberries Directions f

Granny's Flitters

I love my family!  There are so many things I love about each person and also about all of us as a whole.  One of the things I love about my family is we love traditions. Today I am going to share just one of the many traditions we have.....FLITTERS! To me when I think of comfort food, I think of Flitters.  It was a special morning to wake up to the delicious smell of flitters frying in the morning.  It is one smell that every time I smell I am brought right back to childhood and great memories. I am not really sure where the name "flitters" came from or if someone just made it up.  I can tell you how it got started though! My Great, Great Uncle Orville's mom (Grandma Cook) baked bread.  On the days she would make extra bread dough she would invite all of her grandkids over for a flitter night.  She would make her bread and then the extra dough she would roll out, cut into strips and fry up for the kids to enjoy.  That tradition was then passed to my
