Saying Thanks with Peanut Butter and M&M Cookies

If you follow me on Facebook , you know we recently moved. When you move, you pray that God will protect your new house, protect you as you move, pray that your new neighbors are nice. After meeting your new neighbors, and finding out that they are really nice, older, and have lived in their home for a while, you begin to feel a sense of community at your new location. You start thinking that these are the kind of people you want to have around you if something were to ever happen and there was an emergency. The type of people you could run over to ask for a cup of sugar for your baking recipe because you thought you had enough, but it turns out you didn't. The type of people you feel will have your back should you go on vacation and need someone to look after your dog. One thing you might not think about is what if something were to happen to them? Unfortunately, last night we experienced this. We had been home from a weekend in Branson for about 30 minutes. All of a s...

Allergy Friendly Pumpkin Muffins

My friend Sarah, from Food Allergy Eats , shared a recipe for Allergy Friendly Pumpkin Muffins . You guys know I love muffins! These look so yummy, and super easy to make! They would also work well for freezer cooking. Just double the batch and freeze the extra for a later date. Then, on a super rushed morning, just pop a couple in the oven or microwave to reheat. Couldn't be easier! You can also follow Food Allergy Eats on Facebook and Twitter !

Recipe Review - Vanilla Bean Baked Donuts

A few weeks ago I ran across these Vanilla Bean Donuts with Strawberry Glaze from Shugary Sweets on Pinterest . Being that I love both vanilla beans and strawberries, I was intrigued. Plus, the fact that these particular donuts had been pinned over 7,000 times, I knew they had to be good! As I read the recipe I saw that the glaze uses Jello! JELLO! I thought that was pretty interesting so I decided to try a batch. They were REALLY good! The icing was a bit thick for my liking, that is a quick and easy fix though. Next time I will just use a bit more milk. Now, I know what you are thinking. Yes, I told you the recipe used Strawberry Glaze. I was out of Strawberry Jello so I used what I had....Mixed Berry.  They were still great! That is another great thing about this recipe, you can change the flavor just by using different flavors of Jello! The donut itself is REALLY good! These would be great just sprinkled with a bit of powdered sugar as well....or just pl...

Recipe Review - Banana Nut Bread

Mmmmmm.....warm Bannana Nut Bread!  Is there anything better? Well, for me it would be to take the nuts out! Yes, I like my Banana Nut Bread, nut free! A few weeks ago I ran across this recipe, from Nags over at Edible Garden , on Pinterest .  It was love at first site!  Instead of the traditional pecans, she used macadamia nuts!  HELLO!  She also used hazelnuts but I forgot about those once I saw macadamia nuts.  Since I had a few overly ripe bananas just lying around I decided to whip this up. You will need: Eggs Vanilla 1 Banana (yes, just one!) Butter Flour Sugar That's it!  Oh, and nuts for those of you that prefer nuts in your Banana Nut Bread.  Super simple! I started by mashing my banana and setting it aside. Then you will cream your sugar and butter together Add your eggs and incorporate well Once your eggs have been incorporate turn your mixer to low/stir and add your bananas and vanilla ...

What to do with overripe bananas

While at Sam's last week, or the week before, we bought some bananas.  The people that eat bananas in this house consist of 1.5 people.  ME and Mads....sometimes.  Hubby can't stand them and MG thinks they are slimy and gross.  Mads counts for half a person because she takes two bites and decides she is done. Despite my better judgment I went ahead and got a little bushel of bananas because I was PROMISED they would be eaten.  Now, here we are a week or two later and the bananas are brown.  Ugh.  What is a girl to do?  I took to Pinterest , of course, and looked up a few recipes. I started with Banana Bread.  I think it is the very first thing most people think of when dealing with overripe bananas.  Let me tell you, there are TONS of Banana Bread Pins on Pinterest .  I settled on this recipe from Edible Garden. Source: Edible Garden While looking over Banana Bread recipes I discovered Banana COOKIES!  Say WHA...

Chocolate Crostini

Last week when I was trying to come up with something to pair my Ecce Panis bread with I immediately thought CHOCOLATE!  I had NO idea how I was going to make this work.  Should I make a chocolate spread?  Dip the bread in chocolate?  What?  THEN!  After absolutly NO results on this from Pinterest (I know!  I was shocked also!) I turned to Google.  That is where I found this recipe. Savory Chocolate Sea Salt Crostini!  WOW! I told hubby about it and the first thing he said......"you should top it with bacon"!  The man is a genius I tell you!  So after looking through our fridge and both freezers I was at a loss....no bacon.  *sigh*  I decided to just make it as the recipe calls since this would be my first time to make it and I still was not sold on the whole bread and chocolate thing.  I mean, I knew it would be good because well Ecce Panis bread is AMAZING and chocolate is well....chocolate!  Hello!...

Recipe Review - Baked Doughnuts

I have been wanting to make cake doughnuts for a LONG time, I just never had a fancy pan.  Michaels was having an AMAZING deal a few weeks ago and I got it for 40% off!  AWESOME!  I now need to go back and get a second pan......waiting for another awesome deal first though. I first found this recipe from Kristy over at Mommy Hates cooking , she adapted it from this recipe found on Fake Ginger .  I decided to take both and combine and change a few things on each.  The first thing I did was change the buttermilk/skim milk for what I had on hand which was 2% and I added 1/8 tsp cinnamon rather than 1/4.  Next time I will skip the cinnamon all together.  I then doubled the recipe. I made the Vanilla Baked Doughnuts first and then added a few tablespoons to the left over batter to make chocolate.  I preferred the Chocolate Baked Doughnuts over the Vanilla. I found these to be very dense doughnuts and I don't know how to change that.  For...

Recipe Review - PW's Vanilla Bean Scones

Ooooh Vanilla Scones.  I just love Vanilla Bean Scones !  Seriously drool every time I even think about them. My love for Vanilla Bean Scones started at Starbucks a few years ago.  I was scared to try to make my own because well, I had only had them from Starbucks and I did not want my love for them to be tainted by a bad recipe. Oh!  My!  Gosh!  Am I ever so glad I tried this recipe!  It is very easy and, in great PW fashion, she walks you through all of the steps with ease.  The one thing I did not do was cut the scones small enough the first time.  No biggie though, this gave me a little extra scone to love.  The only other thing I would do next time is make my glaze a bit thicker.  I followed her recipe to a "T" but I would add a little less salt to the dough and a bit more powdered sugar to the glaze next time. Oh!  Also!  The very first thing I did was scrape the vanilla beans into the cream and let it sit f...
