Chocolate-Hazelnut Waffles

SheSpeaks, #Torani, Breakfast

Do you LOVE Nutella?  Yeah, so do I.  Unfortunately, I don't always have it in the house. You see, I am the only one that eats it so it goes bad before I finish a jar.

A few weeks ago I was sent a bottle of Torani Hazelnut Syrup from my friends at SheSpeaks. I will be honest, when I first opened the box I was less than thrilled with the syrup flavors I received. I received a bottle of Peppermint Syrup and a bottle of Hazelnut Syrup. Other than Amaretto, those are my least favorite flavors. Ever.  Stink!

I was stumped for days on what I was going to make with the syrups.  I did NOT want to try to pull off a recipe that I really did not like the flavor of.  I'm just not one of those bloggers, if I tell you I like something, I really do like it.

Then. It hit me!  HELLO!  BRANDI! Wake up! You LOVE Nutella and it is made with hazelnuts!  DUH!  Oh my gosh!  I was so right! I DO love Nutella and it IS made with hazelnuts!

Then it came down to what I was going to make. The girls wanted chocolate chip waffles for breakfast this morning and it hit me! I could make chocolate waffles and add some hazelnut flavor and oh my gosh, I just about could not wrap my head around how good this was going to be.

Chocolate-Hazelnut Waffles
Adapted from: Annie's Eats

1 2/3 Cups All-Purpose Flour
2 Tbsp Sugar
1/2 Cup Cocoa Powder
1 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Baking Soda (so, I totally forgot to add this the batch I made and they turned out fine)
1/2 Cup Egg Substitute
4 Tbsp Butter, melted
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
1 Tbsp Torani Hazelnut Syrup
2 Cups Buttermilk*
3/4 Cup Mini Chocolate Chips**

Directions:
Preheat waffle iron.

In medium bowl, combine Flour, Sugar, Cocoa Powder, Baking Powder and Soda and Salt. Stir to blend and set aside.

In a small bowl, combine Egg Substitute, Butter, Vanilla, Torani Hazelnut Syrup and Buttermilk*. Stir to blend well.

Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just incorporated. Stir in Mini Chocolate Chips** and let rest for 5 minutes.

Cook to your waffle iron recommendations. I fill my iron with 1/3 cup batter and allow to cook for 3-5 minutes or until my iron beeps.

Garnish with Powdered Sugar and additional Mini Chocolate Chips.

*I make "homemade" buttermilk by adding 1 Tbsp Vinegar to a measuring cup, then pour however much milk you need into the cup. Allow this mixture to sit for a few minutes before using.
**When using Chocolate Chips, I like to dust with just a bit of flour before mixing with other ingredients. This allows the Chocolate Chips to incorporate well into your ingredients rather than sink to the bottom of the bowl.

This recipe makes about 12 pancakes.

Both of my girls gobbled these up and asked for more. Mads even wanted more for dinner!  HA!  They are REALLY good, you will want to eat the entire batch.

This is a sponsored post, I was provided product from Torani and SheSpeaks in exchange for a review and recipe. All opinions are my own and those of my family.

Strawberries and Cream Instant Oatmeal | Recipe

I don't know about you but, we go through oatmeal like that is the only thing to eat on this planet!   Seriously a TON! My youngest would eat it for every meal and snack....every day....if I let her. Yes, the little packs can be cheap (if you can find a coupon and get them on sale) but it still adds up.  I used things I already had on hand so there was no extra cost to make this.  FREE is ALWAYS good!   I tried before to make little packets to keep on hand but that was a complete fail.  I have since reworked the recipe and am happy with the results.  I decided to just keep the oatmeal in a glass container this time and scoop out what we need, when we need it.  You can also make this into packets by just scooping the desired amount into zip-top bags. {Strawberries & Cream Instant Oatmeal}   12 Servings 6 Cups Quick Cook Oats 1 1/2 Cups Oat Powder 2 Cups Powdered Milk 1 - 1 1/2 Cup Sugar 1 Cup Freeze Dried Strawberries Directions f

Granny's Flitters

I love my family!  There are so many things I love about each person and also about all of us as a whole.  One of the things I love about my family is we love traditions. Today I am going to share just one of the many traditions we have.....FLITTERS! To me when I think of comfort food, I think of Flitters.  It was a special morning to wake up to the delicious smell of flitters frying in the morning.  It is one smell that every time I smell I am brought right back to childhood and great memories. I am not really sure where the name "flitters" came from or if someone just made it up.  I can tell you how it got started though! My Great, Great Uncle Orville's mom (Grandma Cook) baked bread.  On the days she would make extra bread dough she would invite all of her grandkids over for a flitter night.  She would make her bread and then the extra dough she would roll out, cut into strips and fry up for the kids to enjoy.  That tradition was then passed to my
