Top 5 Summer Time Treats

Summer hasn't "officially" started yet but by the temps here, it sure seems like it has! With Summer comes yummy treats! Isn't it funny how our taste for things change with the season? Maybe it is just because I HATE using my oven during the hottest time of the year. During the summer months I prefer cold treats, both savory and sweet. Today I am sharing with you my Top 5 Summer Time Treats!

The girls and I headed out to Walgreens last night to pick up some Pepsi and Frito Lay products. They were having a great sale on Pepsi Products and, I needed to pick up some chips for my treats, and also lunch this week.
First up is a cool savory summer time staple, Chips and Guac! I LOVE making my own homemade guacamole, it is super easy and tastes 1000x's better than store bought. All you need is 1-2 Ripe Avocados per person, Lime Juice, Tomatoes, Onion and Garlic Salt and Pepper to taste. Each time I make it I put different amounts of everything in so I really don't have a set recipe. I ALWAYS serve my guacamole with Tostitos Tortilla Chips, no other brand will do.
Next on my list is Root Beer Floats. A few years ago I bought a few different brands of root beer and did a little taste test. Our favorite? Mug Root Beer, it is SO good! Since my girls are still little, they never finish an entire root beer float, I started making them mini size and they got the BIGGEST kick out of them! Plus, it helps me not to over indulge, I get just enough to satisfy my craving.
Around here there are two HUGE rivalries. Are you an OU or an OSU fan? Do you drink Coke or Pepsi? For us, we are OSU fans and we drink Pepsi, and Pepsi prosucts! For my family, Pepsi is a tradition that started generations ago. My Great Grandpa Adams ALWAYS had to have a Pepsi and my Grandpa usually capped his not off with a giant bowl of popcorn and a nice cold Diet Pepsi. Since we always had Pepsi in the house growing up, during the summer I would make Pepsi Freezes. All you do is pour a can of Pepsi into a plastic cup and freeze overnight. When you are ready to enjoy just take your cup out of the freezer. You can scrape it with a fork and put it in a separate cup but, I just use a spoon and the cup I froze it in. Plus, this is something SUPER easy for the kids to do!
What summer picnic is complete without a PB&J Sandwich? Why not take it up a notch and add.....chips! Yep! I remember MANY school trips to the Zoo, I would always have a PB&J Sandwich and add some Lay's Potato Chips to it! YUM! Just make a regular PB&J sandwich and before you put it together, add 4-6 chips. You can thank me later, your kids will also love this!
This Strawberry Pretzel Dessert is AMAZING! It is the perfect dessert to take to family gatherings. It is SO easy to make! The hardest part is waiting long enough to allow it to set up before digging right in! I seem to always have Rold Gold Pretzels just hanging out in my pantry, what better way to use them than cover them with cheesecake and strawberries? HELLO!

Strawberries and Cream Instant Oatmeal | Recipe

I don't know about you but, we go through oatmeal like that is the only thing to eat on this planet!   Seriously a TON! My youngest would eat it for every meal and snack....every day....if I let her. Yes, the little packs can be cheap (if you can find a coupon and get them on sale) but it still adds up.  I used things I already had on hand so there was no extra cost to make this.  FREE is ALWAYS good!   I tried before to make little packets to keep on hand but that was a complete fail.  I have since reworked the recipe and am happy with the results.  I decided to just keep the oatmeal in a glass container this time and scoop out what we need, when we need it.  You can also make this into packets by just scooping the desired amount into zip-top bags. {Strawberries & Cream Instant Oatmeal}   12 Servings 6 Cups Quick Cook Oats 1 1/2 Cups Oat Powder 2 Cups Powdered Milk 1 - 1 1/2 Cup Sugar 1 Cup Freeze Dried Strawberries Directions f

Granny's Flitters

I love my family!  There are so many things I love about each person and also about all of us as a whole.  One of the things I love about my family is we love traditions. Today I am going to share just one of the many traditions we have.....FLITTERS! To me when I think of comfort food, I think of Flitters.  It was a special morning to wake up to the delicious smell of flitters frying in the morning.  It is one smell that every time I smell I am brought right back to childhood and great memories. I am not really sure where the name "flitters" came from or if someone just made it up.  I can tell you how it got started though! My Great, Great Uncle Orville's mom (Grandma Cook) baked bread.  On the days she would make extra bread dough she would invite all of her grandkids over for a flitter night.  She would make her bread and then the extra dough she would roll out, cut into strips and fry up for the kids to enjoy.  That tradition was then passed to my
