Birthday Cupcakes Update

(Shirley Temple Cupcakes)

I first talked about this AMAZING cupcake here.  I read all the reviews and read over the recipe a few times just to see if I really felt this was for sure THE cupcake.

It TOTALLY was!  OH! MY! GOSH! It was SOOOOO good!

The cupcake itself is a yummy pomegranate flavor and was SO good just by itself.  The topping is where the Shirley Temple flavor comes in.  It is a sweet yet tart lemon/pomegranate flavor.  YUM!

While making the cupcakes I discovered a few things.  The batter is TOTALLY weird!  Seriously.  I have never seen anything like it in my life.  Well, ok, maybe once when I was making my AWESOME Strawberry Buttercream and something went wrong, very wrong and everything separated.  It looked just like that.  Everything separated.  It was very soupy.  If you make this just know, there is nothing wrong, it should look like that.

I did go ahead and make the homemade grenadine, also talked about here.  It was VERY good!  It is worth making, it is not hard and it doesn't take much time.

The icing is like a glaze rather than a fluffy frosting.  It is very sticky and will run if you put too much on.

The other thing I did........

Chocolate Cupcakes kissed with Coffee and topped with an Italian Coffee Buttercream.

I could have seriously eaten the frosting with a spoon right out of the bowl.

I won't lie, I did do just that.  YUM!

These were SO good!  As soon as that coffee extract appears on the market I will for sure be stocking up!

I just took a regular chocolate cake mix, made it according to the directions on the box and added about 5 tablespoons coffee extract.  Bake according to directions on box.

For the frosting I made my regular buttercream and added about 4 tsp's coffee extract and 3 tablespoons Coffee-Mate Italian Sweet Cream creamer.  OH! MY! GOSH!  I can not even explain to you how good this was!

YUM!

Strawberries and Cream Instant Oatmeal | Recipe

I don't know about you but, we go through oatmeal like that is the only thing to eat on this planet!   Seriously a TON! My youngest would eat it for every meal and snack....every day....if I let her. Yes, the little packs can be cheap (if you can find a coupon and get them on sale) but it still adds up.  I used things I already had on hand so there was no extra cost to make this.  FREE is ALWAYS good!   I tried before to make little packets to keep on hand but that was a complete fail.  I have since reworked the recipe and am happy with the results.  I decided to just keep the oatmeal in a glass container this time and scoop out what we need, when we need it.  You can also make this into packets by just scooping the desired amount into zip-top bags. {Strawberries & Cream Instant Oatmeal}   12 Servings 6 Cups Quick Cook Oats 1 1/2 Cups Oat Powder 2 Cups Powdered Milk 1 - 1 1/2 Cup Sugar 1 Cup Freeze Dried Strawberries Directions f

Granny's Flitters

I love my family!  There are so many things I love about each person and also about all of us as a whole.  One of the things I love about my family is we love traditions. Today I am going to share just one of the many traditions we have.....FLITTERS! To me when I think of comfort food, I think of Flitters.  It was a special morning to wake up to the delicious smell of flitters frying in the morning.  It is one smell that every time I smell I am brought right back to childhood and great memories. I am not really sure where the name "flitters" came from or if someone just made it up.  I can tell you how it got started though! My Great, Great Uncle Orville's mom (Grandma Cook) baked bread.  On the days she would make extra bread dough she would invite all of her grandkids over for a flitter night.  She would make her bread and then the extra dough she would roll out, cut into strips and fry up for the kids to enjoy.  That tradition was then passed to my
