Last year we decided to try to grow a garden. The girls loved helping me water the plants, of course it usually resulted in them running through the sprinkler. They also loved seeing the plants grown. Our crops did not do so well because of the awful heat we ended up getting for most of the summer. We ended up with a few pieces of okra and that was it.
This year we decided to let the girls grow a small garden themselves. While we are still in the planning stages of the big garden, we went ahead and ordered some sunflowers for the girls to get started on and get them excited about the big garden.
I decided to order a cute little package from The Gigglin' Garden Gang. The site is very easy to navigate and to order you click through to Amazon.
We purchased the #GoGreenNGiggle Greenhouse Kit. It comes with a cute little tote, book and CD. The girls absolutely LOVE the book! When we were done planting Mads read the book again.....10 times!
Our kit! The book was a HUGE hit and so was the CD.
MG listening to mommy read the book.
Inside the book is a little package of sunflower seeds. You plant these inside the little dirt pellets that are in the greenhouse. The dirt pellets are SO cool! They expand in water, the girls thought that was just AMAZING.
Once the dirt pellets have expanded you place the seeds inside.
Once all of the seeds are in the dirt just close the lid and place in a sunny place. It will take about 8 days for the flowers to sprout.
We placed our sunflowers in the kitchen window next to Punky. Punky is a potato Mads planted at school. I am sure Punky is happy to have some new sunflower friends.
I can't wait for the sunflowers to start growing and I know the girls can't either. Now, if it would just stop raining so we can start on the big garden. Things are a little flooded around here right now.
