Do you KNOW hunger?

Friday, March 30, 2012
A few weeks ago I told you about the #TysonBreakfast Bread Bowls.

This week I took a few of the bowls to church with me.  I teach a class on Wednesday nights to 1st and 2nd grade girls.  We always have a lot of fun.  The church provides snacks for each class but my girls ALWAYS seem to still be hungry even after the snack.

My Mads enjoying her bowl!

A few weeks ago after a few girls ate 2 oranges, 3 apples and a package of cookies EACH I asked them about food.  I asked who ate before church, just a few girls raised their hands.  I asked who was going to eat dinner after church, a few more girls raised their hands.  Then, I asked if anyone would not be eating dinner tonight.  I had one girl raise her hand and my heart sank to my stomach.

Miss K LOVED the bowls, she ate 3 of them!

I love each and every one of these girls as if they were my own, well one IS my own but still.  It breaks my heart to hear some of the stories they share with me each week.  I do my best to help them without singling them out or making them feel bad.  I would give these girls the world, if I could.

Hunger is a mostly silent epidemic.  You would never know by just looking at some of the girls in my class that the only meals they eat are at school.  There are tons of ways you can get involved in helping your community!  Donate items to your local food bank, talk to your kids teachers and make a box for them to keep in their classrooms containing food for the kids that need a little extra, donate to your church.  Did you know Tyson has a hunger relief campaign going on called KNOW Hunger?  They do and I LOVE them for that!  You will find lots of info on how you can join in and support this mission.  I encourage all of you to help however you can in your communities.

We had such a fun night this week!  We did our lesson, had lots of snacks, did a craft then played outside.  I had a FULL class this week!  I need to find another table before next week, the girls were a little cramped together.

Be sure to follow Tyson on Facebook and Twitter to learn more!

Odwalla Champions for Kids - April Simple Service Project

As most of you know I LOVE teaming up with Champions for Kids.  Each month they feature a new Simple Service Project.  During the month of April CFK will be teaming up with Odwalla to bring you 'Game Day Challenge'!  This theme is all about kids sports!

Did you know:
1 out of 3 children and teens in the US are overweight, which puts them at risk
of developing serious health problems, including diabetes, heart disease and asthma.

Only 3.8 percent of elementary schools, 7.9 percent of middle schools and
2.1 percent of high schools provide daily physical exercise for their students.

Children who play sports have better eating habits and nutrient intake than those
who do not, and this combination of physical exercise and balanced diet contributes
to improved health and academic achievement. Odwalla believes in Nourishing The
Body Whole® so that children can have healthy nutrition and lead strong lives!

This week I went to my local Walmart and picked up a few items to be donated to my church.  I am donating the items to the Children's Ministry department.  We have about 40-60 kids each week, age 5-13, that attend our children's church.  Before church starts the kids are given free time, most of them play basketball, ping pong or just play outside.  It seems like the children's pastor is constantly buying new ping pong balls and paddles!

I decided to pick up a couple of extra ping pong paddles, ping pong balls and a new football.  I also got a small variety of Odwalla juices and smoothies.

I have never tried Odwalla juices but am looking forward to trying them!  I talked to the children's pastor earlier this week and she said we could set up a little juice bar for the kids in a few weeks!  YAY!

I am so excited to be a part of the #OdwallaCFK simple service project this month! In the next few days/weeks I will be collecting items to donate to the local little league.

Would you like to get involved as well? Here are some ways to help:

Gather your family, friends, and co-workers to participate in a Odwalla Game Day
Challenge by hosting a basketball, baseball, kickball, football, softball, or other kind of
ball game. Have each person bring new or gently used sporting equipment!

Learn about the athletic needs of children in your community by inviting a teacher,
youth group leader, or coach to talk with a group of your family, friends, and co-workers.

Give the teacher/coach/youth group leader the sporting equipment to help children in
your community enjoy more active and healthier lives.

You can see my entire path to purchase in my Google+ album.

Celebrating National Waffle Day with TCBY

Oh yes, if you didn't know by now you are about to.  There IS a holiday for EVERY THING!  This past Sunday was National Waffle Day!  To celebrate my little family had a little Waffle Day celebration with TCBY frozen yogurt.  Yes!  THAT TCBY!

Swoon!

I don't remember when I had my very first experience with TCBY but one of my most memorable was when we were visiting my aunt in Hawaii when I was about 13.  I remember I ordered the parfait, it was new then, and it was good!

Now a days we have those Fro-Yo places popping up all over the place that lets you go in and combine all kinds of flavors and top your creation with all kinds of toppings yourself.  I won't lie, my girls and I frequent them a lot.

I was SO excited when I heard TCBY was now being sold at Walmart!  The Fro-Yo places are awesome but, they get super expensive!  At my local Walmart I can get a pint of TCBY for under $3 and come home and use the toppings we already have.  That pint is enough to serve my girls and I, plus give dad a bite as well.  It costs nearly $20 when all four of us go to a Fro-Yo place.  Eek!

Back to the party!

I decided to get some Waffle Cone Bowls, can't celebrate Waffle Day without some sort of Waffle!  I even made little waffles from cake batter once we got home to add even more fun!

Last week daddy was working evenings so the girls and I snuck to Walmart and picked up cookies and cream and english toffee crunch to try.  We HAD to get more of both flavors again this time plus, strawberry swirl and mint chocolate chip.

I got our table set up to make our little topping bar.  We had M & M's, itty bitty marshmallows, sprinkles (of course), chocolate syrup,  caramel syrup, toffee pieces, and some waffle pieces.

We had a blast and loved all the flavors!  My favorite was the English Toffee Crunch.

 hubby enjoyed Mint Chocolate Chip

Mad's had to have Cookies and Cream.

MG picked Strawberry Swirl

Hello Summer - Goodbye Cellulite!

It has been SO HOT here this week!  We have seriously gone from summer to a super short fall to summer again this year.  We hardly had a winter, if you can even call it that at all, and so far our spring is more like early to mid summer!

Even though it really isn't summer, it is only March for goodness sake, it will be here before you know it.  With summer comes capris, shorts and.....the always dreaded.....swimsuit!  EEEEEEK!!  It is RARE I go anywhere that requires me to be in a bathing suit, if I do....I RUN as fast as my short legs will take me to the pool and get in as quickly as possible for fear of someone seeing me.

All of my life I have battled cellulite.  It has not mattered how fit or active I may have been, it has ALWAYS been there.  I have made a commitment to getting my body as ready as I can for summer this year.  I have been walking, we are going to get bikes soon so I will be riding, and I am going to start Zumba.  Even with all of that I want a bit more of a kick start.

A few years ago, ok like 10 years ago, I used a cellulite cream.  I think from Mary Kay or it may have been Avon.  I can't really remember right now.  However, it did not work and in fact smelled SO bad!  Seriously!  Almost worse than self tanning creams!  The other day I was in Walmart and noticed Nivea now has a cellulite cream....and serum....and even a skin firming moisturizer!  Ooohhh!!  I thought that was pretty cool!  I love Nivea products, they are a brand that I really trust.  I decided to get all three and try them out.

I have been using the products for about 4 days now and can already tell they are helping, it will still be a while before I see the results they talk about on the box though.  I have noticed my skin does feel firmer.

I love that this is a system that works together.  You put the serum and gel on your problem areas and use the firming lotion all over, just like regular lotion.

 Serum

 Gel-Cream

Skin Firming Moisturizer

I do wish there were more precise directions though.  I am still confused as to what order to apply the serum and gel but, if it is working then I guess it really doesn't matter.  I went on their website and could not find any further instructions either.

Oh!  I forgot to mention the smell!  Oh my goodness!  The smell of all of the products is AMAZING!  It is a clean, fresh scent with just a tiny drop of floral.  No funky smells this time!  YAY!

If you would like to see my entire path to purchase, please check out my Google+ album.
