Weekend Wrap-up 9

What a CRAZY busy weekend!

Friday the girls and I watched hubby work on the yard for a bit, I tinted some jars, went to a party.  You know, the normal stuff.  HA!

The girls wanted doughnuts for breakfast Friday so I decided to get up and go get some while they were still sleeping.  Everyone was up by the time I got home, had to make a run to the grocery store as well.  While at the grocery store, I picked up a few lemons and some cloves.  I don't know if you have seen that pin being passed around Pinterest about putting cloves in a lemon and setting it on your outdoor table to keep the flies away.  I decided it couldn't hurt so I gave it a try.
natural bug repellant
As you can (sort of) clearly didn't work.  Maybe our lemons just aren't big enough in Oklahoma?  Maybe our flies are just geniuses?  Who knows!  But, it did smell good.  Anyone else have a tried and true method that will work?

Friday afternoon I tinted some jars.  I am going to a women's meeting later this week and my friend is in charge of centerpieces.  She was trying to find some blue Mason Jars and then we figured out we could tint them!  It is a seriously EASY process.....once you figure out what works best for the color you want.  This is before they are dried and heat sealed.

Saturday night was my friend's birthday party.  Her and her Mr. are about to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary with a trip to Hawaii, so we had a Luau Party!  It was SO fun!
This was her cake!  lol  Our friend A did such an AMAZING job on it!
N and J cutting her cake.  It was a white cake with a raspberry filling.  It was SO good!

The kids played on a giant inflatable water slide thing while the adults talked and shared TONS of laughs.  Until.....the inflatable water slide thing POPPED!  HAHA!  Then the kids made Smore's.
Fun was had by ALL and I can not wait until we get together again.

Sunday was pretty low key.  We slept in, went to Walmart, then went to my SIL's house to help her put her new grill together.  My hubby is a rock star when it comes to stuff like that!  After he was done we hung out a bit then came home...without Mads, she wanted to stay for a bit longer.

MG and I came home and took a nap while hubby picked up the yard for a bit.  Sunday night we grilled steaks, corn on the cob and peaches.  I didn't like the grilled peaches.  I hear they are pretty yummy so I must have done something wrong.  Or they were not ripe enough.

Monday was spent baking.  I made two strawberry pies and cupcakes that included this.....
and this...
cupcakes, bacon

Give up?

I made pancakes and bacon CUPCAKES!  They were DELICIOUS!  I may share the recipe with you all soon....or not....I might decide to keep it in my back pocket for a while longer.  We will see.
Monday night we went back to SIL's house and had a cookout and just hung out.  Then we took the leftover pie and cupcakes to a friends house.  They have teenagers and I didn't want the goodies left at my house.  ;-)

It was a really good weekend.  This weekend is going to be another busy one.  We have Mads dance recital!  EEEEK!  She looks forward to this ALL YEAR!

I know the week is almost over but I hope you have had a great one!  I hope you have a fun and safe weekend as well!

Much love,

I had the opportunity to sign up last week and I seriously LOVE the site!  A lot of you do not know that I am a makeup JUNKIE!  LOVE playing around with it and trying new things.  I usually stick to my normal plum colored eyeshadow, soft barely there blush and a natural lip color.  Some sort of plum eyeshadow has been my staple for a few years now, I have green eyes and purple tends to make them POP!

After taking the Style 360 quiz about cosmetics I found out that brown was a good color for green eyes.  I was a bit skeptical because well, I had never heard that.  A few days later I went out and purchased a few cheap brown eyeshadows.  You know what?  The quiz was RIGHT!  The brown brought out more of the gold color in my eyes!  AMAZING!

Weekend Wrap-up 8

What a CrAzY weekend!  My goodness, it was jammed packed!
the children's place backpack
I am going to to start with Thursday this week since that is when our weekend started.  Thursday was Mads last day of school, she was welcomed home in grand fashion.
cato fashions for girls top and skirt
Friday was a BIG day!  Friday morning and afternoon we did "house stuff" (laundry, dishes, yard work, etc).  My niece, Andi, graduated from HS Friday night.  After getting cleaned up, it was time for graduation.  MG fell asleep on our way there (it seriously takes us 5 minutes to get to the HS), so her and I stayed in the truck until she woke up.  She finally woke up about halfway through graduation.
After graduation we went to the family graduation party at Clanton's.
graduation party
Saturday the girls and I got up, had breakfast and made strawberry pies.  After the pies set a bit and we got ready, we headed to my Grandpa's for another graduation party, this time for one of my cousins.  On our way into the house we were greeted by some dear friends of mine that I have not seen in a VERY long time.  Always good to see old friends.  We made our way inside and I was met by this little cutie....
This is my little cousin B-man.  He's SO cute!  He is about to be a big brother.  :-)
This is why we were at my Grandpa's, to celebrate a graduation!  We sure do have some cute kids in this family!  It was great to hang out with the fam.

Saturday night we met up with MORE family and went to the Tulsa Shock game.
Before the game they had some little games and things for the kids to play.
Mads shooting....
MG shooting....sort of.

ALL the kids, plus Lisa and my Aunt Dee, shooting.
We were at the game to honor my cousin Lisa.  She was the PE Teacher of the Game.  It was awesome to see her get the award, she is so deserving!

It was a lot of fun!  Although the Shock lost at the very end, we had a blast!

Sunday the girls and I came home then went to church Sunday night.  Extreme took the kids to the park and we had popsicles.  The kids had a blast!

Since I was gone most of the weekend and hubby had to work, we celebrated my birthday on Monday.  We went to Joplin and had dinner at Logan's Roadhouse.  It was REALLY good!  Then, we went to Target....of course.
Joplin, Birthday

It was a really good weekend, full of family!  This weekend I have a birthday party for a friend and I will also be watching hubby build our new fence.  I hope you all are having a GREAT week!

One Year - Joplin

One Year, One Community, One direction,

I think that really says it all.

One year ago today was just like any other spring day.  It was a BEAUTIFUL Sunday afternoon, not a cloud in the sky but a slight chance of rain later in the day.

The girls and I were driving to church when the skies turned black and the rain started POURING!  Little did we know, a tornado was on the ground about 15-20 miles away, near the lake.  I pulled into church, got the girls out and went into the nursery.  I decided to check the weather just to make sure there was nothing going on.  To my surprise, not only did a small tornado hit just a few miles away from me, a MASSIVE and very deadly tornado struck one of my favorite places.  Joplin, Mo. is a short 45 minute drive from my house and a place I shop at regularly (once or twice a week).
Reports were just starting to come in, my mom was texting me, we had friends in the area that were texting other friends in church.  It was nuts.  At the time we did not know just what had happened.  We knew there was a tornado, we knew it was bad, we knew we had friends up there.  None of us were expecting what we would be faced with in the hours shortly after.
(this was posted on FB by my friend Jamey)
After church I ran to Walmart to pick some things up, I was met by a group on their way to Joplin to help in anyway they could.  They were getting supplies but had a small SUV and were afraid all of the supplies would not fit.  I told them if they could wait 30 minutes I would go get my truck and drive whatever they needed up for them.  We agreed that if they were able to make it work, they would just leave instead of waiting on me.  They were gone by the time I made my way back.
Joplin Tornado Damage
The next few days were full of both tragic and heroic stories.  Pictures of the damage was starting to come in.  It was heart wrenching.  If you did not know someone that was affected, you knew someone that did.  A few days went by and the city of Joplin was begging people to come back and shop, eat at their restaurants, that the town was still open even though half of it (it seemed like) was gone.  So, John and I loaded up the car and went up there.  The pictures on the news and internet just did not even begin to compare to what it was really like.  One of the things I also wondered is what it would smell like.  I know that is weird, but that was just one of the things running through my head.  The whole town smelled like freshly cut, wet, 2x4's.  It felt so weird eating and shopping while so many were trying to literally pick up the pieces and go forward.  But we did, it was one of the small ways we could help.  We also started a food and clothing drive at our church and my friend and I took a few trips up with things we had gathered.

Over the last year we have continued to shop and eat in Joplin and watching the rebuilding process has been amazing.  The organizers that handled the volunteers were just amazing.  Thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, volunteers were deployed to the area from around the world to help.  I, to this day, get teary eyed just thinking of the love and support that Joplin has received.
Plank in Curb
Yes, that is a piece of timber going through a curb! source
As we drove through the heart of the town last night I was just amazed at how far they have come from a year ago.  Houses are starting to pop up, stores that were leveled are back and open for business, the class of 2012 has graduated.  This chapter has closed, the new chapter is just beginning.

I continue to pray for everyone in Joplin, they still have a long road ahead of them.  I can't imagine the emotional toll this has taken on them.  I know the emotional toll I have had has been overwhelming at times, I can't imagine what it would be like if I was one that had to go through that.

God bless you, Joplin!

Weekend Wrap-up 7

Yeah, yeah...I know we are already ALMOST at another weekend and I am just now posting this.  It is the end of the school year which means, we have been BEYOND busy!  Please forgive me.

Last weekend was tiring...if I had to sum it up in one word.  lol  Most of it is just a big blur to me.

Thursday we packed up and drove to Springfield to go to Kmart.  Yep, 2 hours away just to go to Kmart.  BUT!  It was for good reason!  Did you see my patio makeover?!?!
Friday I don't even remember what we did.  I know Hubs worked that night, I think I made banana bread and I know the girls and I did something but for the life of me can't remember right now what it was.  This is why I should not wait so long to write my weekend wrap-up post!  HA!
Saturday was spent making Strawberry Pie, Texas Sheet Cake Cupcakes (review coming soon) and editing pics.  Saturday morning the girls and I got up and had breakfast with my SIL, MIL and niece.  Saturday was my nieces last Prom.  Awwww....  That afternoon we met up again and I took some pics...
Isn't she BEAUTIFUL?!?!

After we took a few shots it was time for her to go eat dinner.  At that point my girls stayed with MIL and SIL, and hubby and I ran home, grabbed the pies, cupcakes and banana bread and dropped them off at the church then headed back to SIL's house.  Then, we all went out to eat.  It was a LOT of fun.  After dinner we went back to SIL's house and waited for A and her date to get back from dinner so we could head to the walk-in.  We did not have this where I graduated from and I guess it is fairly new here because hubby did not do it when he was in school but.... the kids enter prom on a red carpet!  Almost literally.  They all line up (well mostly just stand around until they are good and ready to go inside) and hand their ticket to some guy (guessing he was the principal or something).  He then reads their names, all the parents, family members, friends, etc, ohhh and awww and clap and snap pictures as they walk into prom.  It is really pretty cool.  Plus, you get to see all of the amazingly beautiful dresses (my favorite part).
This is 1/3 of the "paparazzi".  A lot of happy mama's.

These were some of my favorite dresses, it was really hard to get pics as the kids did not stay in one place for too long and started getting dark.
After we watched all of the kids was time to go home.  It did NOT take long for all of us to fall asleep.  lol

Sunday I edited MORE pics, Hubby and the girls cooked me breakfast (we ate outside) and the rest of the day was spent doing NOTHING.  Just relaxing.  We did drive around looking at fences for a bit.  The things you do to prove your point to your husband.  lol  Then we picked some lettuce, peas and onions at Mads school garden, came home and grilled.  It was a great Mother's day!

Another GREAT weekend under our belts!  I hope you all had a fabulous weekend and are having an amazing week.  This weekend is another CrAzY one for us!  We have graduations, graduation parties, birthday's (mine WOOHOO) and Saturday night I am going to a Tulsa Shock game!  AWESOME!
My cousin Lisa (the one on the left) is being honored as the Teacher of the Game!  We are all VERY excited for her and she is seriously SO deserving of this honor!  Congrats, Lisa!  Go Shock!

Cindy's Strawberry Pie

Mmmmm!!  Strawberry Pie!  This is, I think, the PERFECT pie!  Seriously, it is heavenly!

I was well into my 20's (nearly 30) when I tried my very first piece of Strawberry Pie.  We were having lunch at Clanton's and we decided to get dessert, which we hardly ever do.  I had heard how amazing their Strawberry pie was and since I like both pie and strawberries, I figured it couldn't be bad.

Oh! MY GOSH!  It was AMAZING!  But, there was just one problem.  I could only get this pie at Clanton's and it was VERY seasonal.  *sigh* *BIG SIGH*

This is where Cindy comes in.  Cindy happens to be my sister-in-love and seriously one of the sweetest, funniest gals you will EVER meet.  She is as beautiful as she is sweet, also.

Last year (I think it was last year, could have been the year before) my brother and Cindy came up to Oklahoma for something or other and Cindy made Strawberry Pie.  I was a bit hesitant going into my first bite because I was pretty sure it was not going to be as good as Clanton's.  Nothing against Cindy's cooking....Clanton's pie is just AMAZING.
I hesitantly took my first bite.
it was like the stars aligned and Heaven opened.

Sorry, Clanton's, but Cindy's pie was BY FAR SO MUCH BETTER!

It is perfectly sweet and perfectly strawberry-ish and just perfectly DELICIOUS!
Cindy's Strawberry Pie
1qt. Fresh Strawberries - sliced
3/4 C. Sugar
3 T. Cornstarch
1 1/2 Cup Water
3oz (small box) Strawberry Jello
9" Pie Crust
Cook Whip

Bake empty Pie Shell according to directions (or make homemade and pre-bake).  Set aside and allow to cool completly.
In medium-large saucepan heat water then slowly add Sugar and Cornstarch.  Stir constantly until you notice a change in color.  You want to try to get the mixture as close to clear as possible, this will take 10-15 minutes and the end result will be more of a cloudy clear than a clear, clear, your mix will also become thick.
Now you are ready to add your jello packet.  Continue to stir until fully dissolved.  Once dissolved, remove from heat and allow to cool 20-30 minutes.
While your Jello mixture is cooling, slice your strawberries.
After mixture has cooled, add your strawberries.  Mix well, but gently, and add to your pie crust.
Cool pie in fridge for at least 2 hours.
Serve with Cool Whip.

This recipe doubles easily!

Thank you, Cindy for letting me share this recipe!

I would LOVE to know if you try this recipe!  Share your review with me on Facebook, Twitter or email me at

Getting ready for Memorial Day with a Patio Makeover from #KmartOutdoor

Ugh.  What can I say about the above picture?  That is our patio furniture.  Full of stains, rips and other lovely things like bird droppings.  To say our patio needed a makeover was an understatement.
Here is the entire set.  It is pretty boring and totally does NOT match my personality.  I want something fun!
I decided to see what Kmart had to offer and was pleasantly surprised!  They make it easy and offer an online catalog, they also offer online layaway!  Since the nearest store to us is nearly an hour away it is nice to have so many online options!
I was able to pick out what I wanted without even leaving my house!  I could also see what was available at the stores near me so I would not be making a wasted trip!  That was GREAT!  I decided to get some replacement cushions for our patio chairs and put them on layaway.  I love using layaway because it allows me to make payments over time rather than coming up with the money right then!  Kmart offers online layaway that allows you to place items in layaway at your local store from your home.  During the process they show you how much your payments will be and when they are due.  Super easy!  To learn more about their awesome layaway options, check out their website.  Basically, you add your items to your cart and click a little box if you would like to include the item to the online layaway.  When  you are ready to check out, you are given your total and asked to pay a small fee of $5 and your down payment.  For most purchases the down payment is $15.  You then have the next 8 weeks to pay off your balance.
I could not wait to get my cushions so we decided to go the next day!  Hubs and I loaded up the girls and off we went!  I stumbled upon this chair and decided I HAVE to have this after we are done with our entire makeover.  Yep, it's a LAZBOY!  At Kmart!  So awesome!
We walked around for a bit and purchased a few extra's to pull everything together.  At checkout we used our Shop Your Way Rewards Card and received a $5 gift card to use on our next purchase!  AWESOME!  To see my entire path to purchase, check out my Google+ album!
Here is our spruced up patio!  I LOVE the colors!  I painted the plant stand and candle holder to match our table and chairs.  We also decided to hang the candle in the plant stand rather than the plant and I think it looks GREAT!
I LOVE everything we purchased and have spent a LOT of time outside this weekend.  Revealing the makeover to hubby and the girls was really fun, I can't wait to reveal it to the rest of our family and friends during our Memorial Day celebrations!
